Cable sleeves?

OK, I’ve got a question…

If you’re knitting a cable sweater type thing, do you put matching cables on the sleeves? If yes, do you try to line them up with the cables on your pattern? Can you do the sleeves plain (st stitch) or is that considered cheating?

I am doing a project for which I have no pattern - I saw something in the store and used it for inspiration - I’m not exactly copying but I really loved the idea so I “borrowed” it. I have searched everywhere for a pattern but cannot find a name for the thing so… I can’t find a pattern! The item has cables on it and I’m trying to figure out how to do the sleeves. I’m afraid that I’m going to have to put cables on them and match them up. :crying:

I don’t know if you guys have addressed this before, if so… sorry. Any advice would be welcomed! Now, if more info is required to answer this… I can explain the project but only if everyone promises not to laugh if it turns out to be another “Christmas Tree Skirt” situation!

Thanks in advance, Angela

Cables usually have some other stitch around them and run vertically on the sweater. The sleeves come out horizontally from the sweater, so there’s really no place to match them up.

If it’s a raglan, then they generally match up at the decrease, I believe.

You don’t have to cable the entire sleeve. You could run one cable up the center of the sleeve to tie them in together.

:happydance: Yeah!

Oh, Ingrid, I knew that you would have a suggestion! You are the very best and I L  V  this idea!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

You do have my curiosity piqued, though. Just stop knitting if it begins to reach the floor! :rofling:

 It doesn’t quite reach the floor!

I was going to keep this a secret until I finished it but… I cannot for the life of me keep a secret!

OK, like I said, I have tried and tried cannot figure out what this thing is actually called and cannot find a pattern using the description. It’s like a shawl or wrap (about 2 feet wide) and REALLY long with simple cable paterns running the length. The thing that makes it different and interesting… it has sleeves like a sweater! You can wear the ends hanging down the front or throw one over a shoulder and leave one long or throw them both over your shoulders.

I saw it in the Ralph Lauren store and… :inlove: Then I saw the $400 price tag and  Then… I noticed that it was a fairly simple concept - big, wide scarf with sleeves - and decided, “Hey! I can knit that!” My MIL was with me when I saw it and she swore that I could make it. She also loved it but was even more horrified than I was by the price.

I’m using a worsted wool/cotton blend in a cream color on size 10 needles and, so far, it looks like I want it to look. Very simple and, I hope, classic! I shall keep you posted on my progress but I’m only about half way done with it. The sleeves were giving me nightmares - literally! I dreamed that I finished it and wore it and all of you guys were there. You all looked at me and gave me that sad, pitiful smile and shook your heads. No one said anything, you just… sighed. It’s was awful!

Thanks again, you are the best!

Ang

:verysad: :shifty: You mean like this? :rofling: I can’t wait to see pictures!! :happydance:
