Cable pattern help

I’m new to cables and tried searching for articles but haven’t found what I was looking for.

How do I know how many stitches to knit after putting cable stitches on a cable holder then doing the cable stitches on the holder?

This is my pattern. The row with cables.

Round 3: *K3, P1, C4B, P1, K1tbl, (P1, K1) twice, P1, K1tbl, P1, C4F, P1, K3.

Thank you!

There should be an explanation how to do the C4B and C4F. Normally, for both of them you would slip 2 sts to the cable needle, hold in back or front, k2 from the left needle, then knit the sts from the cable needle.

ohhh, i thought CB4, actually meat 4 stitches on the cable stitch holder. So it’s half on the cable stitch holder then the other half you knit! :cheering:

now i wish i could delete this thread. XD

Lots of people have the same question. Usually the pattern defines C4B or C4F (or whatever the cable stitch is) at the beginning before the instructions or sometimes at the very end in a table of abbreviations. Good question.
