Cable mitts

I can not find a pattern that makes a cable mitt on a round needle, they are all on straight needles. I like round because I have a R and L. Is it not possible to do cables on the round because of so few sts

It is definitely possible to do cabled mittens in the round. Take a look at www.knittingpatterncentral.com and I’m sure you’ll find some. Just so you know, though, you can’t do traditional knitting in the round with a circular needle for mittens. Circular needles are too long for the small number of stitches a mitten requires. You have a few options - you can use double pointed needles, or you can do magic loop knitting which requires one long circular needle (40" or longer is best, in my opinion), or you can use the 2 circular method. All have video demonstrations here under ‘Small Diameter Circular Knitting’.

Thank you so much, I am so glad I found this site. I went on the knitting pattern central site and could not find cable mitts on 4 needles. I must be blind. I do not understand the method of using a long cable needle like you said.

Did you take a look at the videos I linked?? Watching the videos should help clear things up. I’ll try to look for some patterns for you - were you looking for an all over cable look? Or just one cable, or cabled cuffs? Let us know what you’re looking for specifically and we’ll try to help.

One thing I’ve wondered about is making Fetching from knitty.com into a full mitten, minus the top ribbing. I suppose anything’s possible, but if you don’t feel like tweaking a pattern that far, Fetching itself is an easy but fun knit.
