Cable Knit Sweater Bag at Payless--Pattern?

Just saw this bag at a Payless Shoe Store and I’d really like to make something very similar to it:

I think it’s just a fairly basic cable knit pattern in a rectangle, but if anyone has a pattern similar to this, I’d really appreciate seeing it.

Okay, this is what I think it would be:
RS: p2, k5, p2, k8
WS: k2, p5, k2, p8
cable 4 back in the middle 8 stitches every…5 rows?

Hmmm…I’m intrigued now. Maybe if I have time this weekend I’ll try knitting up a swatch.

oooh! Those DropsDesigns are great!!! My niece saw a really pricey knit cable bag this summer (60% off it was still about $70!). These would be great for Christmas presents - not to mention a good way to practice cabling! Thanks for the links, MamaBear.

I just saw a pretty knit handbag at Walmart yesterday. Plus I heard that Target has a few now too. I like them too.

Yesterday on the HGTV channel their was a guest on the Carol Duvall show with a knitted purse similar to the one you were looking for. Here is the link below…

For an even simpler pattern you could do a k6 p2 rib with cable every other knit section, and cable row worked every 8-10 rows. I think you can do it. When you see something you like, it’s time to experiment.
