Cable Joggers, Essential Baby Knits, Quail Studio

Hello & Festive Greetings

I’d like to knit these joggers for my new grandson but I’m stuck after increasing for the first time. Can anyone explain row by row how to “cont in patt - (5) foll 6th rows” & “(3) foll 8th rows”

The cable patt is 1-6 rows so I don’t understand why the second part says (3) foll 8th rows.

Should the increases row always be on a R/S as in the first section?

TIA

Welcome to KH!
The increases all fall on RS or odd number rows. Increase on the Next row which is row 7 and then increase on rows 13,19,25,31 and 37. Then inc on rows 45,53 and 61. That’ll be 8 increase rows after the “Next row”, 16sts increased taking you from 48 to 64sts.

Holiday greetings to you.

Hello
Stitch pattern (in this case cable but could be stripe or lace or anything) and increase/decrease/shaping frequency are two different things. In some patterns they may coincide and a certain thing happens in the same row repeat each time but in many patterns they don’t coincide so need to be tracked separately. In your case counting each row 1 to 6 to keep track of the repeated cable pattern and counting the overall row number to keep track of the increases.
A row counter, or two, can help with this.

Thank you so much!!! First time I’ve asked for help in a forum and this is very much appreciated. Just love the knitting/crafting community and their willingness to be helpful

Hello again and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Quick question re the waist…

Round 1 only has 1 cable as far as I can see. Should it have 2? Surely on that round I cable on both leg sides??

After K(56) should it read P1 C6F P1?

Thank you

Yes, the cable twist carries on up the pants to the waist. The “p1, k6, p1” set up is there but the cable directions were left out. Good pick up!

Grandma JoJo I want these!!
I would have totally LOVED these trousers for my son when he was little. I wasn’t knitting then and so bought knit trousers for him. These would’ve been worn and worn and worn!

Beautiful knitting.

Thank you so much! Neither was I but that was 22 years ago! My sister taught me to knit in the Lockdowns. I’m not addicted and have done my first (of many I hope) yarn festival :yarn::heart:
