Cable hat

I am knitting a cabled hat from Bernat. Its turning out beautiful! The pattern called for Roving, but I am using Viva-its the same thickness, and the color is lovely- (burgundy its called- but its actually variegated with pink/black, grey, burgundy.) Anyway, after row 21, it says work 3 rows stocking stitch. But I was wondering, do I start then row 22 on a knit or a purl? Stocking stitch would be a knit row, purl row, knit row right?

Your link didn’t work.

If you’re knitting in the round knitting every row makes stockinette. If you’re knitting flat then it’s alternating knit and purl rows.

I found the actual pattern- sorry for broken link- I am still confused… Do I start with a knit or a purl row as row 22?

Are you on the WS or RS of the work? If it’s a WS row purl it, a RS row is knit.

Row 22 and all even rows are purl rows. So row 23 is knit and 24 is a purl row and then you’re next row will be a knit row on the RS to begin the decreases.
Cute hat!
