Cable Cast-On

So, I’m starting a Double Breasted Helen Hamann Cardigan.

Under TECHNIQUES USED (which I’ve attached as a PDF) is the Cable Cast-On (but it also mentioned the Provisional Cast On).

So, under METHOD, when it says CO 162 sts … are they implying that I use the Cable Cast-On?

Hi & welcome to KH. My best guess based on your attachment is that you want a cable cast on, does it somewhere tell you to use the provisional cast on? I think more info would be helpful. What are you making? Is it a sweater? Is it worked from the bottom? I think your garment is worked from the bottom but that is a guess. Maybe someone else will be able to tell more and help you better. I hope so. A link to the pattern, it’s name and where you found it, even a picture of your project is generally helpful.

Thank you so VERY much for replying. Yes, indeed, it is a sweater and the garment is worked in one piece, knitting back and forth on circular needles from the hem up to the underarm. And yes, the back and sleeves are knit of spare needles and it does say “provisionally CO” the back and sleeves. So, I presume then that the front/back are CO with the Cable Cast-On. Welcome to Knitting Help!
In addition to GG’s good advice, you could read the pattern in detail. Using a provisional cast on will give you live sts to work with later in the pattern and that’ll give a neater continuation of the piece. You should be able to tell where the provisional cast on is needled because later direcitons will require you to undo the provisiional.
