What is the name or number of the pattern and the designer?
You can quote the row or two that give directions for the buttonhole border and placement of the buttonholes. Don’t give us a large portion of the pattern please due to designer copyright.
Often the directions for the buttonholes are spaced x many rows apart between about a half inch from the hem of the sweater and about a half inch from the neck end.
I always knit the button band first and then decide where I want to place my buttons. I either mark where I want to place them, or sometimes I’ll even sew the buttons on and then match the button holes not only to the button placement, but also can make the button hole to the size of the button. I do struggle with button bands. I never can get them to my liking. Just recently I’ve started making one row button holes and I find them much neater.
