I am working on a size two sweater…and have reached the button hole band. The pattern says to pick up 72 stitches along the front side. I picked up 85 stitches. They seem to fit. Or is it going to buckle or not lay flat even if it looks okay right now? I have knit three rows and am about to put in the “holes” for the buttons. Need advice. Thanks. Lynn
Button hole band
There are several variables.
Whether you are doing the bands in garter st, or ribbing.
Whether you ended up with more rows than the original sweater was written from,
and of course tension works into the mix.
Usually what I do, is finish and decide if it looks the way I want it to.
If not, I frog and make some changes.
p.s. I always work the button band first, so I can place the buttons equal distance apart.
Then I make sure the buttonhole band has the same amount of sts.
thanks for your tips…I am continuing and will see how it looks, but did start with the button hole band as the pattern told me to and I am new at this…so I try to follow directions…even if I didn’t where the number of stitches were concerned. This is in garter stitch. (the bands, collar, and cuffs and bottom of the sweater. the rest/body and sleeves are in stocking stitch.
Again, thanks.
