Bright and Breezy Skull Cap

I’m confused about the pattern:

Rnd 1: Ch 6, join with sl st in first ch. Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1), (dc, ch1) in ring 9 times, join with sl st to third ch of first ch 4. (10 dc, 10 ch 1 sp).

Rnd 2: Sl st into first ch 1 sp. Ch 4, dc in same ch 1 sp. *Ch 1, (dc, ch1, dc- V st made) in each ch 1 sp around, rep from * around. Join with sl st. in third ch of ch 4. (10 V st, 20 ch 1 sp).

Question:

  1. Is the information written in parathesis at the end of the round further instruction, or a reminder of how many sts I should have at the end of the round? Meaning, for Rnd 1, do I continue to 10 dc, and then 10 ch 1 sp? Or does it mean that I should have 10 dc sts, and 10 ch 1 sp?
  2. How do I “10 ch 1 sp”?

Please break your explantions down in terms that I can easily understand. I’m just a beginner.

That’s just telling you how many v sts. and ch spaces you should have after you do them.

“Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch 1), (dc, ch1) in ring 9 times”

Since the ch 4 counts as 1st dc and ch 1, then don’t i only need to dc and ch1 in the ring 8 times?

No. The instructions “(dc, ch1) in ring 9 times” means nine more from that point. One pair (the chain 3, ch1) plus nine pairs (dc, ch1) will add up to 10 (DC, CH1) pairs in the round. That is why they included the stitch summary (in parenthesis) at the end of the round.[/color]
