Braid on Mittens (e.g. Latvian) link and Q

Hi all

I was going to post asking how the braids on Latvian mittens are made but I finally found a link: thought I was going to have to buy a pattern! If anyone’s interested: http://www.helloyarn.com/wp/?p=327
Anyone who has experience with these, please comment. I’m not entirely clear on what’s meant by bringing the wool strands over and under each other as you purl around. I also notice that they are always as wide as the base of hand rather than the wrist/cuff/ribbing (although that’s often just as wide). Is this because they don’t stretch at all?

my mom has investigated these methods- such beautiful FO’s… I think you are right that they are not very stretchy after finishing. I’ll double check with her today. She took a class on this type of knitting, so maybe she has other links to share… MKZ
