Bow madness

i’m trying to knit a bow for my baby, and it states:
knit the st but do not slip it off the left needle, then purl the same st and the next st together. i tried to do this but when i knit and then try to purl the yarn gets tangled on the needle. what am i doing wrong???

here is the site for the bow:

After you knit the stitch, bring the yarn to the front of your work between the needles, not over it, then purl into the same stitch and the next stitch.

thank you so much. i pulled the yarn between the needles and purled but after a while my work looks nothing like the picture??? am i doing something wrong???

How far have you gone? Sometimes it takes several rows till it all styles in. If you can post a pic it would help. There is a link in my sig for appropriate sizes and how-to.

i’ve done about 6 rows now and it looks very different the picture. it looks good just not the same. i will try to send you a pic so you can tell me if i’m on the right track. thanks:cheering:

Yep, a picture could help.

Post the pic here in this thread. That way more helpers will see it.

i’ve made it to the bow section and it states to move 6" back and PU 10 sts and then hold the needles together and knit 1 st from each together. ok i’m lost. i pu 10sts and then what exactly happens from here?

It sounds like a 3 needle bind off. There is a video for it in the Bind Offs section of the videos on this site. http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/index

i saw the video, but the pattern doesn’t end there. i still have to knit another 12", so i can knit the 2 together like the video then bo when i finish the rest of the pattern?

Pick up the sts from a row 6" below onto another needle, then knit a stitch from each needle together. This will make a kind of loop in the headband for half the bow, I bet. It’s similar to how you work a 3 needle BO, but you don’t bind off the sts, you’ll have live ones.

so like the 3 needle bo i knit the 2 together and continue the rest of the pattern then bo???

Yep, just knit them together to join them, then go on to the next row and instructions.

Sue’s got it. It’s a k2tog across the two needles to join a loop of knitting and then continue on with the rib stitch.

See the bow, pattern 2.

i’m trying to complete this bow:
http://www.thesweatshopoflove.com/bl…-bow-headband/

i’m trying to complete the deep textured bow pattern. when i get to the bow it states to measure 6 inches back from working needle, and pick up 10 sts. then to hold these two needles together and knit 1 st from each. so i literally hold the needles together and knit 1 st from each to get a base started for the remainder of the pattern??

Yep, that’s right. That will ‘fold’ it so it makes one of the loops on the bow.

Kolloft, I merged your two threads. It just makes it easier for us (and you!) if the same topic questions are in the same thread.
