I am doing a pattern by Ann Norling #62 and it tells me to do a border of my choice at the bottom for 1 1/2 inch. I tried a ribbing pattern of knit 2 purl 2 and it seems to still pull in. I tried seed stitch but don’t particularly like it as the whole poncho is quite plain with a stockaknit (SP) stitch and it seems to fancy. I would like something clean other than garter stitch. Any help would be appreciated. I am using worsted weight yarn (Vanna’s Choice) and a size 8 needle
Are you going to fringe it like the photo shows? If so I would suggest a row or two of half double crochet stitch. It will give an edge and a place to put the fringes.
I saw the Ann Norling #62 poncho over at Ravelry. One really nice onedid use the k2p2 ribbing for the 1.5" border. She also fringed it! It looked great! I think the ‘pull’ blocked OUT when she blocked it!
Are you a Rav member? If not, you can sign up and get accepted in a day’s time. There a lots of photos of this cute poncho over there, and all with different borders!
There is a cute poncho where the gal used seed stitch for the border, and I think it looks great!
I was not going to put a fringe on it but was going to knit it somewhat longer. I don’t think that 28 or 29 inches is too long is it?
I liked the k2 p2 look and like you say if I steam it a bit it should be good. I am open to other suggestions!
I like the way that seed stitch edging looks!
but if you don’t like the k1p1 of seed stitch, you can do k3p3 in the same seedy way…switching to p3k3 on every third row. I made a washcloth in that, and this is how it looks:
Or you could try k2p2 seeds. I know you said you don’t like seed stitch, but just want to try to help. Good luck and let us know what you choose!
That is a very nice looking what I would call a basket weave pattern. I do belong to Ravelry and I am mathwizard there as well.
Thanks for your replys, I am getting out my extra needles and trying these. I still have a bit to go before I apply the border. I’ll let you know!
