Booties.. don't know what I'm doing wrong

The first part of the booties… last row I had the right amount of stitches… 39

Then the pattern reads:
row 1: k15. k2tog. k5. sl1. k1. psso. sl1. yo. Turn
row 2: k 2tog. k5. sl1. k1. psso. yo. slip. turn.
row 3: k2tog. k5. sl1. k1.psso. Sl1. yo. turn.
row 4: k2 tog. k5. sl1. k1.psso. yo. slip and turn.
row 5: k2 tog. k5. sl1. k1.psso. sl1. turn.
row 6: p2togbl. p5. p2 tog. sl1p. Turn.
row 7: k2tog. k5.sl1.k1. psso. sl1. Turn.
row 8: p2togbl. p5. p2tog. sl1p. turn.
row 9: k2 tog. k5. sl1. K1.psso.
Knit to end of row. (21 stitches)
row 10 purl.
Continue in garter st for 2 inches ending with WS row. cast off
Sew sole seams. Sew back seam. reverse seam 1 1/2 in from cast off edge for turn back.

Whew!.. ok…I needed to give the full details so you can understand my questions.

Questions:
after I complete row 2, and turn… should I put the other stitches on a stitch holder…I don’t know if I am reading the pattern correctly.

in row 4 to row 5:
at the end of row 4 it says slip. Turn.
When I get to row 5 do I count the slip stich in the k 2tog?

Am I placing any of the rows on stitch holders?

In row 5… it says sl1.turn and going ito row 6 P2togbl. is the slip stitch part of the P2togbl?

I’m doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. I seem to have more stitches -

Hope you can help me with this one. I don’t know if my questions are too helpful… I know it’s not working for me.

Thanks again,
cair

Unless it says to put sts on a holder you don’t need to; just leave them at the ends of your needles. You knit the ‘held’ sts when you do the decreases - one from your working sts and one from the held sts.

The stitches don’t need to go onto a holder. Just leave them on the needle and work the stitches for this section. When you slip the stitches they come from the edges and you’re decreasing outside the center 5, if that makes sense.

In rows 4 and 5, yes, purl the slipped stitch together with the next one.

The yo’s at the end of the row and the slipped stitches at the end of the rows are part of the working 2 together on all the rows. It’s to prevent holes.

I will try it out and see what happens… thanks, again.
