Bookworm Tunic pattern help

I have 95 sts on the needle right now. I am at the front part of the pattern where it says V-Neck Shaping Left Shoulder RS Pattern across 44 sts, ssk, K1(neck edge), turn, leave remaining sts on a spare needle, Work 1 row even in pattern. Next Row: Pattern to last 3 sts, ssk, k1, repeat last 2 rows 10 times more. work 3 rows even in pattern. Next Row: Pattern to last 3 sts ssk, k1. Repeat last 4 rows 6 times more. Continue even until piece measures same as back to beginning of shoulder shaping. Shoulder Shaping: Bind off 14 sts next row. Work 1 row even. Bind off remaining 14 sts. Right Shoulder: With RS facing, slip center st onto safety pin. Join yarn to remaining sts and work to correspond to Left Shoulder reversing all shapings by working K1 K2tog at beginning of neck-shaping rows. The part that I am confused about First of all is turn do I turn the work completely like I do to start another row? What sts do I put on a spare needle? Also on the right shoulder it says slip center st onto safety pin. Join yarn to remaining sts and work to correspond to Left Shoulder. I don’t understand that at all.

Oh this is in the Hip Knits book by Better Home & Garden

First of all is turn do I turn the work completely like I do to start another row? Yes, you’ll leave the other sts unworked

What sts do I put on a spare needle? The sts that you leave unworked when you turn will go on the spare needle

Also on the right shoulder it says slip center st onto safety pin. This should correspond to the st that would have been worked next after the first row (first row where you turn. That will be the center).

Join yarn to remaining sts and work to correspond to Left Shoulder. I don’t understand that at all. You need to reattach your yarn to work these sts, because you brought your working yarn up for the left side. This is just like if you need a new skein. You then do everything it told you for the left side, except reversed. The instructions tell you what to do for the reversing (eg, instead of ssk, you do k2tog)

Hope this helps!

that helps big time. My brain must have been going through knitting freeze lol. It makes perfect sense when you say it.

That happens often to me too. When I hear an explanation, or put it aside until later, I wonder why I didn’t get it right away.

yeah i agree sometimes you just have to walk away that’s what i had to do just walk away from the project. i dropped stitches ended up having more then i need accidentally tore out more than i needed to. just a mess because i’m tired. i’ll figure it out later lol. of course it happens after everything is sewn and i’m doing the neck which is the last thing lol.
