Book recommendation needed:socks

I want to learn to knit socks. I have found many patterns online, but I’ve never knit them before, and I need pictures. I would like something that shows me the basics - well illustrated - and also a variety of approaches - top down, toe up, etc.
Thanks for your help.
Rebecca

On-Line the Silver Sock Class is good

These are books that look good to me.

Teach Yourself VISUALLY Sock Knitting

Getting Started Knitting Socks

This is how I learned to knit socks. You don’t have to buy the pattern she has tho. So easy!

I also used the Silver online class to learn to knit socks

My favorite easy sock pattern these days is this:

For toe up socks, Socks from the toe up, Wendy D. Johnson is a really good one.

For overview books I know nothing.

The Silver Sock class is an absolute classic, though. So that you should really read / test. It is free, too.

The best books i found are Melissa Morgan Oaks two at a time socks. and her new one which is Toe up, two at a time.
They are very easy-great pictures and you get both done at the sametime! If you would like the first book she published i have it and no longer use it…just pm me and ill send it to you!:woot:

Hi!:waving:

As you might have guessed I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sock knitting! I love to knit them, block them, wrap them up pretty and give them as gifts to very special people or pop them on my always-cold feet for a nice blast of warmth in our cold Maryland winters! Brrrrrrrrrrr!

There’s NOTHING like a hand-knit pair of socks! :woohoo:

I set out to learn every different way I could find to knit socks - on double pointed needles, on two cable needles or one long cable needle, knitting one inside the other at the same time (YES, it can be done and is fascinating!) and whatever else was available. It was a great learning experience but I did discover one thing - first learn the basic structure of a sock and how to actually knit one before you get wound up in all the wonderful ways to do it!

My absolute BEST basic information book was Ann Budd’s “Getting Started Knitting Socks”. Then I learned magic loop and finally, when I had a couple pair under my belt, I studied and worked with Melissa Morgan-Oakes book which shows how to knit two at a time, top down, on one looooooong cable needle. That’s the method I mostly favor since I know they’ll both come out exactly the same length, something I had a real problem with using other methods!

But by all means knit one at a time until you’re past being scared silly at the sock-knitting process! Once you learn the basics you’ll wonder why you ever wondered if you could do it!

Let us know how it goes! We’re all rooting for you!

Happy Knitting,

Ruthie :knitting:

Here is how I learned to make socks.

She has great pictures, and you can make the leg part as long as you like.
