Book: friday night knitting club

I thought this would be another idiotic piece of fiction, but, it’s pretty good.
You might want to pick up a free copy from your library, and read it, before the movie comes out in June.

I was looking at in Target tonight and wondered if it was a good one. I’ll see if the library has it. Have you read Debbie Macomber’s similar books? How does it compare?

I just started reading this tonight! My mom picked it up the other day cause she thought of me when she saw it. I’m working on a simple washcloth, so I’ve even finally been able to read & knit at the same time. ahhh happiness :slight_smile: It’s a pretty good book, too.

Funny I found this thread tonight…I just finished reading The Friday Night Knitting Club and I enjoyed it very much - I felt like I knew the characters well and was sad to have the story end. I had no idea it will become a movie…hope they do it right!

I also enjoyed Debbie Macomber’s books - the characters are very likeable and the stories are engaging.

I think I enjoyed this book best of all - happy reading AND knitting!

I’ve read the book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn’t take me long to finish it either. You will not be disappointed.

I absolutely LOVED this book and Debbie MAcomber’s The Shop on Blossom Street (Just started A Good Yarn)! My knitting group read this when it first came out and I had to buy it, I enjoyed it so much. Like many, I was disappointed in what happens as the end - but I loved the book.

If you enjoyed these books, another to read is “Unravelled” by Robyn Harding. It is about the lives of people in a knitting group. I found it at my library.

I received this book as a gift. I haven’t read it yet. It sounds like I should get started on it. I still haven’t mastered knitting and reading at the same time :wink:

I’ve been told about Macomber’s books, but, not read one yet, I do have them on hold at the library.

I tried reading The Knitting Circle, but, lost interest.

As far as I can tell, and I"ve only read a few chapters so far, it’s pretty good. Not great, or one of the top ten masterpieces of all time, but,I like to read it when I’m done for the day, and relaxing in bed.

Tell me how you like it, what you think of the plot, and the characters.

I hope the movie is good, too. I also felt like I knew the characters, and am interested to pick up the book later on today, and see what happens next.

I agree, this is a good one.

I’ve read most of the knitting fiction out there and enjoyed it all. Some is better than others of course, but I didn’t stop reading any of them. :teehee:

There are also some knitting mysteries out there:

Mary Kruger’s Knit Young, Die Fast, and one other

Maggie Sefton has 3 or four

Monica Ferris has 6 or 7, which are needlework and knitting. Her latest is Knitting Bones. I think she is the best of all of them.

I do have a lot to read. I don’t read much since I started knitting. I use to read a lot, These are all books that have been gifts I haven’t read yet.

My library system has multiple copies, but they are all checked out. I put it on hold and I’m number 3 on the list! LOL! Must be a popular book.

I enjoyed this book - & actually, the author is going to be in my town tomorrow signing copies with a Knit-IN at the book store. Unfortunately, I wont be able to make it because I’ll be leading my own knitting group (darn it)…but yes, I did enjoy it & am anxious to see the movie.
Debbie Macomber is my favorite though out of the two. I love the way her books just flow. Even in her christmas series books - she always through at least one knitting nod - so cute!
I have the other mystery knitting books & am anxious to read those as well.

I’ve picked this book up several times at the store, but have never gotten it. I almost got one of the Maggie Sefton books… but changed my mind. I am not sure if I could get into these…

I did it as a book on tape… my first actually. Listened to it on the way to work and found it quite enjoyable. Author is going to be in town this weekend for a signing too. Wonder if i could have her sign my iPod. :teehee:
