Booga Bag Challenged

I have been a lurker for some time now. You guys are all so talented and encouraging!

I am Booga Bag Challenged!!!
I have knitted (since my new love started in January!) 3 scarfs, a purse (then felted it!), a toddler hat (then felted it!), i have knitted on circulars and taught myself on dpn, so I love learning new things…I have heard so much about this booga bag…loved the look…thought I was well to go…

So I started!

I am now stuck! Please help me out!!! I am a newbie and feel like this should make more sense to me!

I have my 34 rows done in garter stitch.
I watched the video on picking up stitches (thanks so much for taking the time to do all that! You are such a blessing!). I think I can do that…

This is what I am stuck on…
What the heck do I do next? Do I cast off? Which edge do I start on? I have 34 stitches on my needle…what do I do with them if I don’t cast off?

Please understand I am direction challenged too…go slow, be gentle!

Am I the only one Booga Bag challenged? Does anyone have step by step pictues…well I thought I would ask! xoxoxojenn

I’m one of the few people around here that hasn’t done a Booga bag, but this question gets asked a lot.

You’ve got your 34 stitches on your needle, right. Hold it in your right hand and start picking up the stitches from the short side nearest the point. Work down that side, across the other 34 stitches that you cast on and then up the short side. I’ve also read that this can be awkward, but eventually it gets done, and as you start knitting in the round, it gets easier.

That makes so much sense!

Thank you so much!

One more question…

Is this the bottom of the bag! xojenn

the rectangle that you knitted first and then picked up the stitches from is the bottem yes. Just keep going up in the round and it will all make sense.
