I have just competed a raglan jumper after having blocked each of the 4 pieces before seaming together with blanket stitch. I am about to embark on another raglan jumper. My question is: is it necessary to block the entire area of each piece of the jumper, or can I simply block the raglan seam edges of each piece only, then stitch up the seams? Will it make a difference to the finished article?

If you’re going to block (and it’s so worthwhile to do so) then block the entire piece rather than parts of the knitting. How you block depends on the fiber but it takes little time relative to the time spent knitting. It’s worth doing a complete job on this, almost the final step.
