Blocking question

I am in the process of seaming a sweater (To Dye For in Stitch 'N Bitch Handbook) for my MIL. I should have knitted the sleeves shorter (I saw the tip on Knit Picks) but I didn’t.

I was wondering…I am using Suri Dream from Knit Picks which is 74% Suri Alpaca, 22% Wool and 4% Nylon…can you block that fabric or no? If not, the sleeves are going to be way long. Any suggestions? I have the underside of one arm and the side of the sweater left to do…so about 85% done.

It might block, but I’m not sure if you can block the sleeves shorter, if that’s what you’re trying to do. If it’s a pretty drapey fabric it would probably stretch back out with wear even if you could get them a bit shorter. Can you unravel the cast on (at the cuffs) and shorten it a few rows and then bind off?

I don’t think so, it is a bell sleeve, it would take away from that. Oh, well! You live, you learn!

Well, I ended up taking out part of the sleeve seam on one side and shortening it up and shortened the other side…now just have to seem. Didn’t take as long but not as “bell” shaped either. Still looks good.
