Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding blocking a sweater. I am ready to block my first cardigan made with 100% cotton. I understand how to block, but I’m a little confused with the “block pieces to measurement”. My pattern’s diagram is telling me to block my piece to 32 1/2 (bottom) and 22 3/4(side). My piece before wetting it is 36 and 24. Will the yarn shrink? My arm pieces are measuring fine. I did the pattern exactly as it indicated. What do I do???
Thanks
If the piece is already the size you want it, than you just soak it in water, and lay it out on a towel. If you want to lengthen the body, stretch it and pin it out. Then it should be fine.
She is saying that the garment is bigger than it it supposed to be.
I’m not sure if “scrunching” it down to the right size would work.
It sounds like your gauge was off, hence the sweater is larger than you expected. Cotton may shrink if you dry it, but you’ll want to be super careful about that. You’ll have to decide if the sweater is too big and if not I’d say seam it together and wear it as is!
I hope you can figure it out!
If anything cotton will grow in length. 'Tis the nature of the beast. It sounds like a gauge problem to me. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about the blocking instructions. I’d just block the pieces then seam it all up and reblock. THEN worry about whether or not it’s the right size.
Unless you want to frog it all.
