Blocking Heavy Yarn

I need some tips on blocking. It’s been a while since I actually completed a sweater, and the end is now in site. I’m using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick. Gorgeous sweater, but I know it’s going to require some major blocking work.

Suggestions, please!

Wool-Ease is a blend, right? It really won’t block well, but if it’s the 25% wool/75%acrylic blend I think it is, you can wash and dry it.

Wool-Ease is 86% acrylic, 10% wool. It’s suppose to be machine wash and dry. (I was attracted to the easy care.) My concern is what to block it on. Years ago I use to block needlepoint professionally and used a board of some kind from the lumberyard and T-pins. Should I try to block a sweater this way? What kind of solid surface should I use to block on? I’m afraid a stack of towels just won’t do the job.

My point was that the yarn itself isn’t really blockable. You can try wetting and pinning it on the rug, even, but the nature of acrylic is that it doesn’t change size the way blocking will change the size of wool or other natural fibers. Very often, though, washing and drying will even out any odd stitches.
