I’m working on a scarf for my gf, and the pattern has cables in it. I was just wondering, is it a good idea or a bad idea to block the work. Thanks in advance!!
Blocking is a good idea, but some yarns block easier and better than others. If it’s acrylic it may work just to throw it in the washer and dryer or you can wash it and then lay it out on a towel or blocking boards. Pin it if you want the edges perfectly even.
hmmmmmmm, good idea. I think I’m just gonna wash it when it’s done, and pin it down somewhere and let it dry like that. Do I need stretch it a lot or a little? Sorry, I’ve only blocked like two things before, and I want to make sure that I do it right.
Whichever fiber it is, just wash and dry it first according to the yarn label laundry instructions. You probably don’t want to stretch it too much by pinning it out or that will flatten the cables.
Yeah, definitely don’t stretch the cables out too much. You want them to have definition.
Okie doke, maybe the best thing to do then would be to just stick them in the dryer once I’m done washing them. I don’t want to screw up and stretch it out too much. Oh, btw, I forgot to mention earlier, it’s worsted weight yarn. Hobby Lobby’s I love this yarn!
Oh that’s acrylic and it won’t block like wool anyway. So the best thing for them is wash and dry in the dryer. You can steam block but I don’t think you’ll need to; the steam created from the dryer it all that it’ll take to relax and even out the sts.
Ok, awesome!!! I’ll definitely do that then. I haven’t “graduated” to the fancier yarns yet lol. There are, however, some lys’s here that I would like to check out when I actually have more money to spend on yarn.
