Blocking a Scarf?

Do i need to block a lace scarf…its the one row lace scarf on ravelry…it looks okay to me…thanks

Could depend on what kind of yarn you used.

If it’s 100% acrylic it proably just needs a run thru the washer and maybe dryer.

If it’s wool, it might like a hand soak and rinse and then layed out on a towel spread out to open up the lace/holes.

Do you mean with woolite in the machine or hand wash…it is the shimmer yarn by redheart…it looks okay to me…what would blocking it do??? thank you

Blocking evens outs stitches and sometimes is used to stretch an item into size and shape, and for lace to stretch out to open up the pattern, but that’s easier with wool. Acrylics don’t really stretch out, but washing and drying in the dryer can relax the sts. Just put it in with your regular laundry, though nothing too heavy.

thank you for the replies…

You can block acrylic… I would for a lace scarf. At best you will see noticeable improvement in openness and evenness… At worst you won’t see much improvement but it will not do any harm.

Start by either machine or handwashing, block as usual with pins or wires. Wet a dish towel (wring excess water), lay it over a portion of your scarf, and hold an iron on “steam” over it for 5-10 seconds. Move the towel and repeat.

Then let it air dry for a day or two.
