Blocking a huge piece!

Any suggestions on what kind of surface to use to block a big piece?

Thanks in advance. Maria

Well, I only did it once, but I blocked on the wool carpet in a back upstairs room. Pins went into the carpet just far enough to secure the piece, I spritzed with water, and warned the familly to stay out of the way. It worked beautifully!

Thank you. I am going to try that.

Just make sure the carpet is clean or anything trapped in it can make its way into your project. This includes smells, dirt, etc.

I think I would throw a couple beach towels down on the floor and block on that. And be careful you get all the pins picked up! Count them as you put them in or after and then make sure you get them all when it’s done.

I’ve blocked large objects on my guest bed, which was first covered with several layers of towels. This works really well–as long as the piece you’re blocking isn’t sopping wet!

I spread a clean sheet over top of my bedroom carpet. Pinned and blocked - then left it overnight plus - it was out of the way of traffic, so it worked just fine.

Got me a blue ribbon in the fair!

I do this as well. For large shawls, etc. Use the largest bed in the house, covered in towels or thick quilts. (assuming it is not a waterbed) pin down the object in question, and turn on the ceiling fan above the bed (open a window in warm weather, turn on the heat in cold weather, etc). It should dry before bedtime if you start early enough in the day. LOL!
