Binding off

Ok I was just wondering if anyone hate binding off as much as I do. I love the fact that I’ve reached that point because that means that I’m almost done, but binding off took me forever to do!!!

…Until I found Amy’s video on the single crochet bind off. Now I no longer hate it! I used to crochet so it was easy for me to do. It took me about the time it takes to knit it normally as oppossed to all the time that correcting dropping stitches takes whicht seems to happen about every other stitch using normal bind off methods (for me).

So yeah do any of ya’ll use either of the crochet techniques to bind off?

nope, not me but I have heard some folks saying that it’s easier to do that way. Binding off was a pain when I first started out but I find that with every project I bind off, it becomes less and less of a hassle.

I love the single crochet bind-off, too! It’s made it so much easier, and I don’t even know how to crochet.

I’ll have to try that. I hate binding off…but I hate casting on more. I’m too anxious to begin knitting! Plus there’s that whole counting thing, and that whole “how much yarn do I need for the long-tail cast-on” thing…

ooh I’m gonna have to try that crochet version - my bind off are always too tight, even when I go up a needles size or two…or three!

Angelia, I don’t like trying to figure out how much yarn to use for the long tail cast on as well. I usually end up either doing way too much or not enough. And the counting drives me crazy as well, especially if its more than like 30-40.

Not only do I like crochet bind-off, but I also use it with scrap acrylic yarn as a quick lifeline that’s easy to unravel (make sure the last bound stitch will be the first to be unraveled). And then there’s the crochet chain that makes a great provisional cast-on… :heart: Makes me kinda glad I learned crochet before I picked up knitting.

I’ve never heard of the crochet bind off! Does any one have a link to an explanation and hopefully pics?

Jen, if you go to the menu at the top of this page and click on “Basic Techniques” and then “Bind-Off” there is a video that shows the technique. Hope that helps!
