Binding off

Beginner knitter here…

I am making a sleeveless top. I read somewhere (maybe on this board) that you should switch to a larger needle when binding off so the edge of the work will not be too tight. Is that correct? Would this apply to the bind off stitches at the beginning of armhole-shaping rows?

If you have tendencies of binding off too tight, then yes changing needle size is a very good idea. Especially if you are making something that needs to have a flexible edge, like a hat or socks, or the bottom edge of a sweater if knit from the top down.

Your example, of binding off stitches at the beginning of armhole shaping, you could go either way. Personally, I don’t change needle sizes for binding off in those types of instances.

Okay. Thanks for the help!
