Binding off on a sleeve cap

Hello forum.
If i’m asked to bind off 9 stitches at the beginning of a row am I knitting into my 10th loop/stitch on the needle to bind off the 9th or just stopping at 9th loop/stitch? I’m seeing that it makes a difference in knitting a lace pattern but not quite sure how to proceed.
Many thanks!

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
It takes working 10sts to bind off 9sts so yes, work into the 10th loop stitch.

If you need to maintain a pattern you need to bare in mind the 10th stitch is already worked. You can also choose if the 10th which is staying on the needle is worked as purl or knit, if that makes a difference in your pattern continuity.

The way the binding off stitches are set may be done with no regard for maintaining lace repeats, so you may find yourself knitting partial repeats, and possibly having to omit yarnovers that don’t have a partner decrease.

Here’s a good guide to counting bound-off stitches if you lose count while doing it, although lace may complicate things slightly:

Thank you. Very helpful.

Thank you. The pattern is the Lacy Sweater in the 2nd edition of Margaret Hubert’s complete Photo Guide to Knitting (p 116)

Thank you for the name and designer. Lovely, lacy sweater as described!
