Binding off on a cable pattern

Hi -

I am at the neck shaping portion of the back of a sweater. The pattern calls for b.o. center 48 stitches working p2tog on each side of each double cable. The 48 stitches I am binding off are a double cable — 3 multiples of 16.

How do I do this — Do I stay in the pattern to b.o? when do i p2tog?

I would be very appreciative of any help.

Many many thanks

Yes, stay in the pattern, it looks better. But if it’s a cable cross row, don’t cross them, just knit the knits and purl the purls. You can p2tog, then pass the previous st over them, but unless there’s an increase there, you’ll lose sts and the neckline might be a little tight. You could just purl them separately if there’s no increase. What pattern is it?
