Binding off in pattern

Hello, I am still work on my first project ever and enjoying it. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. The instructions say both of the following at different times and I was trying to figure out what the second means about in pattern:
Bind off.
Bind off in pattern.

You will follow the same pattern stitch that you have been working on while binding off. So for example if you are doing a K1P1 rib, you will still knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches, as though you were just continuing on in the pattern, but you will be binding stitches off at the same time by lifting the second stitch over the first on the right needle. Does this help???

Where the instructions simply say ‘bind off’ I would just do a regular knit bind off.
