Binding off in double knitting

I may have asked this question a while back, but I was just wondering…I tried double knitting before (not with two colors, just for extra thickness) and I think it’s really neat. But I would like to bind off so that it creates an opening, like if I wanted to make a bag. The standard bind off closes it. That’s great if I wanted to make, say, a double thick scarf, but I want that end open. Does anyone know how to do this? I think double knitting is fascinating and would love to make a bag. Thanks!

It seems that what you need to do is place alternate sts on different needles. Put the front knit sts on one needle and the back purl sts on a second needle. Then you can bind off the front sts as you wish and continue around to the back sts until all are bound off.

Yes, that makes sense. I’ll give it a try. I appreciate it : )
