Bind off too tight--fix?

I’ve casted off for the chemo cap 4 times. It’s making me crazy. I had to sub a yarn and first it was the size of a yarmulke vs. a cap. SO I picked up stitches and did a 2x2 ribbing to the desired length. That worked fine.

Now I can’t bind off so that this thing fits my head?! I’ve gone up from size 9s to 13s. Still too small. If I add more stitches, I’m afraid I’ll have this big fur ball of a hat that won’t fit, but maybe that’s my only option left? (Besides starting over?)

Please help me. I’m going insane.

It sounds like it’s too small overall, maybe from using a thinner yarn? What you could do is go back to the last increase round (it starts from the center top, right?) and make several more increase rounds to make it larger.
