Better edges / continental knitter

I knit continental. My right edge is lumpy, can’t get the tension right. Am trying to get it perfect to submit samples for Masters knitting certification. Any ideas on how to make good edges? I can’t slip a stitch. I must knit all stitiches.

I don’t think it matters which style you knit. I knit or purl the first st on a row, then pull the yarn a little to take up slack from the last st on the row below. Then knit the next couple sts a teeny bit tighter than usual. That really helps to neaten up the edges, which is good because slipping doesn’t work for me.
