Best yarn for pot holders

what is the best yarn (content - not brand) for pot holders?

Some people use cotton, but I don’t feel it’s insulating enough from the heat. I’ve only used wool. Wool is also supposed to be self extinguishing when removed from the source if its on fire.

I used to use cotton until I tried a felted wool potholder. I like wool much better. And it does self-extinguish when removed from the fire. Been there, done that. :teehee:

I’ve got some acrylic ones and no, they don’t melt (unless I throw them on a hot burner accidentally) and they insulate well. They need to be pretty densely knit, or be crocheted.
