Best join for an afghan?

So I’m knitting my mom an afghan, which will naturally take several skeins of yarn. What’s the best way to join then? I hate it when the little ends stick out and since an afghan doesn’t really have an “inside” I"m not sure what to do…This afghan does have a “wrong side” so I guess at the least I’d want the little end to at least pop out on that side.

But…I was just watching Amy’s felted join video. It seems pretty cool and I’d like to try. I’m knitting with Paton’s Classic Merino 100% wool…do you think it would work? Or will the merino be too smooth to felt? Is this not a great join for something like an afghan?

If a felted join works, it holds. I’d try to really separate the ends a lot before I tried to felt it.

The edge-to-edge seam looks like a good one for afghan squares.

ooh that edge to edge one looks like it’ll be good for when I finally get to sewing together the panels. Thanks!

Right now I’m just knitting the same panel but going from the end of one skein to the start of another. I’m gonna give the felting a whirl. At worst, I look a few inches of yarn. Hope it works!

When it works, it’s wonderful. When it doesn’t, there are always other options.

It worked! That was the coolest…you can’t even tell where the join is, and it feels pretty strong. Woo!
