Hey all! First post on here so I’ll start with saying I’m Brandon and I’m about a month into teaching myself to knit. I am planning out a project to make an Icelandic flag blanket for my gramma but without experience or a pattern I’m having a hard time deciding the best way to go about the cross pattern. I’m comfortable with the color changes for the horizontal lines but for the vertical stripes would I be best to knit intarsia (not sure on that term) or some other color change, or would I be best to make it in pieces and sew it together in the end. Thanks for any advice.
Welcome to the forum!
What a nice idea. The Icelandic flag should work very well in knitting using the intarsia method, as you mentioned for the vertical stripes. That means changing colors to a new strand of yarn when the vertical stripes change. This is also going to give you a fairly neat reverse side.
Thanks for the feedback, i thought that would be the way to go but wanted to get a second opinion before starting a big project. I have another blanket for myself started using the same yarn and stitches i was planning to get used to the tension and feel of the fat yarn. I’ll throw some pictures on here once it starts to look like something.
