Best cast on?

I am working on a pair of boy shorts with a lace pattern. The pattern says to cast on 9 stitches at the end of next 2 rows. What s the best cast on to use? I know how to knit on and cable cast on. Thanks! Deb

Many people use a backward loop CO for these situations. You could use either of the others you mentioned though.

Jan, you always come to my rescue - you rock!! I’ll check out the video for the backward loop. thanks!

:aww: Thanks!

I change my patterns so that I’m casting on at the beginning - so I turn then cast on - cause I prefer using the cable cast on method. I find the backwards loop a little loose for my liking, but go with which ever you feel comfy with.

Depending on how many stitches need to be added to the end(s), I too prefer to use the cable cast on for patterns requiring more than a few additional stitches. The backward loop is too loose and a bit sloppy for my taste.

I agree; backwards loop isn’t much good for more than a few stitches.

I used the backward loop and it worked ok - I agree it was a little tricky to work off of though. That particular part is going to be the crotch of the panties so they won’t be visible and the yarn is super soft so I don’t think that it will be an uncomfortable seam. It’s a pattern from White Lies Designs. I checked out the site after reading the bit about the owner in Interweave last month and the patterns are just beautiful. I love the idea of knitting lingerie!
