Bernat Turtleneck Sweater finally finished!

Well, this was my biggest knitting project so far. It is only my second sweater, I had never done raglan seams before and I just learned on this sweater how to properly sew everything together. There was a mistake or two in the pattern, but with the help of people here and elsewhere I was able to get through it.

I have to say though, I am kind of disappointed with how it turned out. It doesn’t sit like I expected it to and it came out bigger than I figured it would. Oh well, I just need to keep knitting to learn how I like to do things to make the sweaters look the way I want.

Anyway, here it is. Thanks for all the help while working on it!

Oh yah, this is the bernat denimstyle ladies turtleneck sweater and I used caron simply soft 100% cotton yarn instead of the denimstyle.

It looks real nice, and it seems to fit pretty well. I like my sweaters a bit big (warmer!). Great job! :thumbsup:

I usually prefer my stuff a bit bigger too, that way I can layer if I want. This is supposed to go to my mom though and she is 4 or 5 inches shorter than I am and about 100 pounds smaller, definitely petite. I am going to send it to her anyway so she can see if she would want it that big or try to shrink it with hot water, but if it doesn’t work for her either I will take it back or it will be given to my SIL if she wants it.

Since I am on the topic, does anyone know if you can wash and dry 100% cotton yarn and it shrink like cotton clothes from the store will? The yarn itself is machine washable and dryable, I just didn’t know if it would shrink like commercial clothes do.

:doh: Oh my criminy! What a dork! Yes, it is acrylic. I don’t know why I had it in my head that it was cotton, must be one of my other projects. Yarn on the brain. Hee, hee, how embarassing :blush: .

I don’t know if the yarn difference was the reason it was bigger than I expected, if I remember correctly (which I obviously cannot guarantee) my gauge was correct, but I may have made my stitches looser as I went along, I have done that on other projects too. The picture on the site looks a lot tighter than mine.

I like it! That’s the same yarn I used for making Skully. NOT good for intarsia though. Definately comfy though, isn’t it? :happydance:

I would like to try intarsia in the future, but I am trying to take baby steps and try one or two new things at a time with each pattern I am doing. I didn’t realize there were better yarns and worse for intarsia, interesting. I will have to make sure I check that out before I start a project with that.

I love the feel of that yarn, it is much softer than I expected. Totally comfortable on bare skin.

The yarn for the project was supposed to be a bulky wool, but I used the super soft instead and didn’t change my needle size. It caused it to be very airy, and when switching yarn, it wasn’t a tight switch. It just left everything very loose feeling. I think when switching colors it is best to make sure your stitches are tight enough for a good finishing picture.
