I am making Bernat sox one ball makes one pair. I just completed shape instep and it says continue even for 6" …is that six inches from my heel or from my last decrease on my instep

It’s 6 inches from the last decrease round. Since you’re about to shape the toe, perhaps you can try the sock on and make sure the length is correct?

Thank you. It’s been a few years since I’ve made socks and was doing great until I second guessed myself
