Bernat Sox yarn?

I have been on a sock kick and made all my socks out of Opal. I have a friend who is allergic to wool so I found some Bernat Sox yarn online. There wasnt much in options for stripes or anything that wasnt a solid color. I love the way the yarn feels - its SOOO soft. What’s the deal with the yarn - is it discontinued or something - why is it not easy to find out in locations - or really online for that matter? Is there something comparible to it - I really love how soft it is.

I like the patterning of Opal yarns but is there something like that but softer like the Bernat Sox? :thinking:

I’m not sure if it’s discontinued or not but I want to say that I’m using the Bernat Baby yarn and it’s really lovely. It’s so soft too.

I purchased a bunch of it off ebay and the supplier I bought from said that it was being discontinued. Too bad, it really is a nice, economical sock yarn.

I think I recall seeing it a Hobby Lobby… :thinking: Maybe you better check there before it’s all gone!

I just got a bunch too, and its hard to find.
I like it just as much as the expensive stuff and won’t cry when they wear out, over the price tag.

Darn it! Why does good stuff get discontinued? I’ll just have to hunt and find anything I can and stock up on it. Hopefully something similar will come out from another company. Socks are just so popular to make now, you’d think all the yarn companies would make sock yarn.

You might want to call your local WM. I bought quite a bit of it at mine when we put it on clearance {actually I bought it all except for the white… I don’t BUY white socks, why would I want to knit them?}. Two of the pictures I posted on my blog this past weekend were of socks knitted out of Sox. I’m working on a pair of ankle socks for my neice right now out of it too.

I just checked, and Bernat Sox is still listed on their website. It could be that they aren’t shipping it into the US anymore. Now tha tI think about it, my WM stopped carrying it, but there is at least 2 other WMs here in town that still carry it.

My WM had only a few left. I bought what I could use colourwise. I like that yarn too. samm who is way behind on sock knitting… but finishing a sock tonight! From moda dea sassy stripes. I like that yarn a lot too.

The woman who told me it was being discontinued was in Canada, so I don’t think it’s just the US that aren’t getting it anymore.

What a bummer! I just knitted those peek-a-boo socks for a friend in the bright blue Sox and lOVED IT!! I had planned on ordering a bunch more. :frowning:

I will say that I had a hard time finding the blue I wanted online. I ended up getting it at Herrschners.

This may be OT (sorry!) but if I want to order some of the Sox yarn from the store knitqueen was kind enough to link us up with for my first pair of socks, around how much should i get? In other words, around how much yarn does it usually take for one regular/beginner pair of socks?

It takes 2 balls of yarn to make an adults pair of socks, and 1 ball to make a pair for a child.

I bought it at Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s, Michael’s, Walmart and if you have one of those Meier’s there too. It’s a wonderful yarn, reasonably priced out there at the discount market. Also Hobby Lobby has their own brand that is the same yarn but so far only at a few stores. Good Luck!

1 ball will also make a pair of ladies ankle socks. That’s what I’m working on right now for my niece.
