Bergere M1864 increase Pattern instruction confusion

In a top down jacket starting at the yoke I am trying to understand the “inc 2 sts raglan” portion of the folllowing instructions as the total created does not seem to match the number “obtained” in the next row - it is 8 short. Do i have to increase in each of two stitches rather than simply adding two new stitches, please?

Using 4.5 mm needles CO 115-119-125- 128 sts & work as foll :

Next row,

7 sts 1/1 rib,

k6,

inc 2 sts raglan,

k6,

inc 2 sts raglan,

k32-34-36-38,

inc 2 sts raglan,

k6,

inc 2 sts raglan,

k14-16-20-21,

28 sts Cable Pattern,

8 sts 1/1 rib.

Work 1 row on the 123-127-133-136 sts obtained

I can’t find the pattern other than a Ravelry page with a link that gives a 404 error. What are the instructions for the increases? You can post 2 or 3 lines of the pattern or just the part that explains the raglan increases. Typically each raglan line gets 2 increases, so each increase row will have 8 more stitches. Somehow I think I’m not understanding your question.

Thanks for replying.

Right cross = CR Left cross = CL
4CR : Slip 2 sts onto cn at back of work, k2, then k2 from cn.
2CR2P : Slip 2 sts onto cn at back of work, k2, then p2 from cn.
2CL2P : Slip 2 sts onto cn at front of work, p2, then k2 from cn.
Inc 2 sts raglan : Inc 1, k2, inc1.

This is all I the explanation i could find but I don’t know if I m1 (with the applicable lean) or kfbf for the increases.

The usual raglan increases are one on each side of the raglan stitch or raglan line. Your pattern suggests leaving 2sts at the raglan line so make the increases either side of those 2sts.

There should be 4 markers for these raglan lines one at each join of sleeves to front and sleeves to back. If you place the markers between the 2sts at the raglan, increase one stitch before the marker and one stitch after the marker (2sts increased at each raglan line). That’ll make 8sts increased each time you knit the increase row. That’s consistent with the stitch numbers given in your post.

You can do your favorite increase here, m1 or kfb or just about anything else since the pattern doesn’t specify. Which size are you making?

Personally I would m1 and I would do them symmetrically, as you said, leaning. I’d do them all leaning INTO the raglan line or all leaning AWAY from the raglan line. It means on each raglan you use a different m1 on each side of your stitch marker but for instance all leaning into the marker.

Lovely design you’ve chosen.

@salmonmac explained what I couldn’t. Thank you again, salmonmac.

I recently learned and like doing a mirrored increase when I use kfb.

I rarely use m1 increases preferring lifted/raised increases. They’re easier for me and show less. Working m1 can make me irritable. lol It’s nice when a pattern doesn’t specify which increase to use but that means making a choice.

Nice mirror video.
Now that you mention it, the increases I worked on my last couple of sweaters were not the standard m1 mirrored but instead a yarn over on the increase row which is worked on the next row. I liked it a lot and found it easier to produce than the standard m1.
So many options!

Except for a single increase for say my count is off one, M1 is my last choice and since I avoid them I never remember which leans left and which leans right. I hate doing mirrored M1s and will sub other if I can. I do like the kfb and its mirror. I use a yo increase, knit through the back loop next round, on most socks. It’s the least fiddly for me with thin yarn.

Yo, then knit it tbl is like a two row m1. They can be mirrored but I rarely bother to do it.

edit for typo

Thank you all for your help. The video is brilliant thanks and the stitches produced look like the pattern photo so I will proceed accordingly. Much appreciated.
