Beginner's Sweater Pattern Wanted

I’d like to learn how to knit, and assemble, a child’s-size sweater.
Having never attempted this, it all looks intimidating, as I browse
the sweater patterns.

Does anyone have a super simple, basic, no frills sweater pattern they can provide a link to, for me?

I don’t know how to do button holes, and I don’t know how to join pieces together. My joining stitches look awful.
I’d also like to learn that technique.

Thanks.

Look for some top down baby sweaters. They’re cardigans that can be knit without seams, except for the sleeves, which are pretty short. You can chain a loop of yarn for a button loop instead of a hole. Look at knittingpatterncentral.com, thedailyknitter.com and there’s a free one at http://www.knittingpureandsimple.com/babycardi.html

I just did my first sweatern and posted it. I used a pattern y Knitting Pure & Simple. It was basically all in one piece except where you go back and pick up stitches for the sleeves. But if I can do it you can!
And I just picked up a baby sweater pattern today at my LYS and it is called 1,2,3 Top Down #609 by Cabin Fever and looks pretty simple.

Knittingonthenet has some fast and easy patts here and here. Something like this is basic ‘top down.’

Lionbrand.com also has lots of baby/toddler patts that are deemed ‘easy.’
