Beginner's knitting help?

Hello! I am new to this site, but have been knitting for maybe 2 years now. (I’m 13! ) I’m currently working on a scarf for my mother, for her birthday. (Just a basic scarf) The only problem is is that when I’m on my last row and want to finish it off, I never really learned how to do it. I had a book on how to knit, but, well, let’s just say that it’s MIA right now! Let’s see if I can explain this for anyone to understand: My book said something about knitting one stitch, then another. Then, starting to end it, you pull the first stitch you did of that last row up over the needle, put it over your second stitch, then drop it. You keep doind that for the rest of that row. The only problem is that when I finish my scarf, the end is not a straight line; instead, it’s a curve.

Is there a diferent way to end a scarf that will make the end look straight, or is it something that I did? Thank you in advance for your help!

I can’t see your work, but it sounds to me like you might be binding off too tight. Your stitches are so tight they are creating the curve. It shouldn’t really be a big deal, just even out your stitches some by pulling the scarf out a little the long way and the short way.

Next time you bind off, try making your knits really really loose. I know that can be hard to do, but it probably would end your curves on your binding off edges.

Keep trying and practicing, and don’t be shy about posting questions here. Many members are willing to help.

Thank you very much Sunny! I’ll try that idea, since I’m nearing the end!

It may also help to use a larger needle to bind off with if you have one.
