Beginner woes- Double cast-on

Hi everyone!
New knitter here, and am having a bit of trouble with the double cast-on. I as following the video on the website, but after the first cast-on, I can’t seem to get it right. In the video, the first is double and the rest are single. All mine are double, with a string of yarn in between.
There were a few times when I managed to do it right, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out how I did it!

Yeah, I wasn’t sure how to angle the camera so it would look right.

Teriris, I was yesterday just where you are today!! I made the exact same mistake!

I would love love love to have a newbie knitting buddy if you’re interested! Ya know, pump each other up and since we’re on the same level and all…lol
