Beginner please help

I started knitting a cardigan and think I pick the hardest pattern ever!!! Can anyone please help me??

It says:

Rows 1-16 set pattern.
Keeping continuity of patt as set work (7:7:13:19:29) rows dec 4 sets across row as before in (7th:7th:3rd:7th:1st) and every fill (0:0:10th:12th:14th) row.
-(112:136:144:160:176) sts.

I have completed 1-16 quiet easily but now don’t know where to go I started with 176 stitches ( I’m working on the third size) I have 152 stitches after row 16.

Do I knit the from row 13 where my stitches are 152? It’s so confusing…

It then says: keeping continuity of pattern as set cont without shaping until work measures (12:13:15:17:21)cm, ending with a WS row.

All help is greatly appreciated I don’t want this pattern to beat me or put me off as I enjoy knitting.

Welcome to Knitting Help!
You’ve completed rows 1-16 (152sts left) and now you’re going to repeat the pattern starting with a row 1 and working to row 13. Decrease 4 on row 3 and row 13 of the pattern repeat. (144sts remaining). After that you’ll continue without any decreases until 15cm, ending with the WS facing you.
Can you give us a link to the pattern or a pattern name?

Hi salmonmac,

Thank you for your reply, I am new to forums too. I got the pattern from a magazine (the knitter, sirdar Dulwich issue 67) not sure if this will help any or if I can get a link. I understand now what I have to do thank you this is a great help But I don’t know where to start as I have less stitches hope this makes sense below…

If row 1 say:
P2, C4F, P2, K2, P2(3:4:5:3:4), MB, P1, T3B, P1(2:3:4:2:4),K2, (P2,K2,C4F) 0(0:0:0:1:1) times, P5(5:5:6:6:6),K2,C4F, (P2,K2,C4F) 0(0:1:1:1:1)times, P5(5:5:6:6:6),(K2,C4F,P2) 0(0:0:0:1:1) times, K2, P2(3:4:5:3:5),MB, P1,T3B, P1(2:3:4:2:4),K2,P2,(C4F, P2)3 times, rep from * to * once, C4F,P2.

This is 160 sets, I have 152 what do I change or where do I start?

Just to check, the MB is a make bobble and uses one stitch and the t3b is a twist stitch that use 3sts?

Yep that’s correct

When I add up the row 1 that you quote, I get 148sts.
8sts before the repeat
58sts in the repeat
6 x 3=18sts
58sts in the repeat
6sts at the end
for a total of 148.
If you end the 16 row repeat with 152sts, perhaps there was a decrease of 4 sts that was missed? What does the pattern recommend for placing the decreases?

Hi Again,

I have tried to attached a PDF of the pattern but it is to large, I see how you are looking at the pattern and it now makes a lot more sense. I think that i have entered something wrong in my previous message as I get 160sts on row 1. in row 3 you decrease sts and again further on. I cant see anything on there that explains the decreased stiches and what to do where do I look for this information. I will try and upload the pattern again in another format if possible.

Thanks for your patience and help you are a star.
