Beginner here.. fingerless gloves

Hi all…

This is my first post! I went to hot topic to buy some fingerless gloves. I love them! It has been a recent interest of mine. I would like to learn how to make them. I tried looking around for Patterns and found a few. The only problem is that I dont understand most of what the people have written. There is so much knitting jargon that I have lost my way :(. I am knitting a Dr. Who scarf. http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com/photo4a.jpg I have shorten the width and the length because well… I am short! Nearly done but I would like to make more things like the gloves and ( my husband has been hounding me) a sweater. Anyways… Any suggestions?

Here is what I was looking at. http://www.dimbleby.net/knitting/mypatt/gloves1/gloves1.html

These patterns are pretty much normal knit talk. Here is a translation key http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/abbreviations_explained/ It’s pretty much necessary to learn the talk in order to read the patterns. You can print both the key and the pattern out and rewrite so you can understand it. As you do it, you’ll begin to understand the abbreviations. It really isn’t hard. When you get to a place in the pattern that you understand all the language and still don’t know how to do it, ask and someone will explain how it’s done. :teehee:
