I don’t understand the bee stitch. Can someone help, please?

I know I should try this first, but does it add a stitch? It just seems like it would.

It doesn’t add a stitch because you slide the stitch off the left needle as you normally would. Sometimes you do this and knit into the stitch on the needle for an increase, but for the washcloth you don’t want it to grow–this will create the pattern.
