Beanie sizing

I thought this would be easy, but I’m a bit stumped.

I made one of these R2D2 hats for my son. At my wife’s suggestion I want to make one for the baby shower we’re throwing for friends who are Star Wars fans. I can (I think) deal with adjusting the sizes of the colored blocks etc. but I need help adapting the basic hat pattern. I was thinking 60 or 66 stitches would be about the right size for an infant/toddler sizing, but I have no idea how to figure the decreases so they come out right. Thanks for your suggestions!

I’m a bit new at knitting, so maybe I’m totally wrong, but I have made 3 beanies, and the last two I made were just me winging it without a pattern, and I’ve found that the decreases don’t necessarily have to come out exactly even for it to look good, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If you get the the end of a round and have one stitch left, just work that stitch by itself and keep going.

Again, I could be totally wrong there, that’s just how I’ve done it.

Can you find a similar shaped baby/toddler hat w/similar yarn guage and base it on that?

or better yet - a hat whatever guage that casts on 84 (or close to) - then you can follow the chart w/mimimum modifications.
