Basic pattern help

I have a pretty basic question: my pattern says to k6 yo k2tog
I get the k2tog but with the yo…I put the yarn in front as if to purl and then knit a stitch and THEN do the k2tog? Or do I put the yo and k2tog with the yarn in that position? In other words, I don’t just put the yarn in front and call that a yo, a yo involves moving the yarn in front and then completing a knit stitch before moving on to the k2tog. Right? Thanks, typing this out makes it sound so much more complicated than it is!!

When you YO you bring the yarn forward between the needles then over the right needle to the back to knit again. In your case you’d k2tog. This creates an eyelet without adding a stitch.

Thanks Jan, that makes sense!
