Basic DPN Math

Hello all,

Please don’t make fun of me but how im I suppose to evenly divide 34 sts on 3 dpn. Technically you can’t divide 34 into 3 and get an even number but i remember a while ago a very sweet lady helped me with the same situation but i forgot how she did it. Can someone please help me?

The pattern has cables on the side(mitts).

I would divide it 11, 11, and 12 and just make sure the cables won’t be split between two needles. As long as the sts are approximately the same number on each needle, you’re good. Later the pattern may tell you how to distribute the sts (for example when you get to the thumbs) but to start, this should work.

I agree with salmonmac. Exactly dividing isn’t important they should just be fairly close and the cables should not be slit between two. I always make sure each needle starts with a knit stitch myself, but that does depend on the pattern. Use markers if you need to to keep track of what is where.

Hope this works out. Its for a swap this week n im sooo behind!!

thank you soo muchh!!! You have no idea. I’m doing a swap this week and i didnt know what to knit until i found this pattern.
